The Big Easy isn’t necessarily known for surf culture and beach vibes. Lucy’s is bringing the laid back atmosphere of the beach to the heart of New Orleans.
Lucy’s calls itself a “retired surfers bar” and the decorations leave little room for interpretation. From the surfboards hanging on the walls, island vibe music and beach themed menu, there’s no mistaking Lucy’s for anything but a surfer bar.
JD, Manager and part owner of Lucy’s, talked a little bit about being a surf theme bar in the Crescent City.
“Most people seem to just stumble up this place out of curiosity,” he says. “People aren’t usually looking for the surf bar experience in New Orleans.”
“The Juicy Lucy definitely keeps people talking”
But that curiosity pays off.
“I think first timers are usually surprised that our food is so good,” says JD. “And the locals are already convinced.”
Part of the convincing process is the menu at Lucy’s. JD thinks there’s a special item on the menu that of which the locals can’t get enough.
The Juicy Lucy is Lucy’s famous burger served on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and some of Lucy’s special sauce.
Everyone is welcome at Lucy’s and that includes you furry little friend with four legs.
“We’re definitely a dog- friendly restaurant,” says JD. “And not just for the outside area. We let people bring their dogs into the bar area.”
And Lucy’s happens to be one of the best spots to have Sunday brunch in the Big Easy.
“We have a great brunch menu with bottomless mimosas and bloody marys,” says JD.
Make an extra effort to stop by Lucy’s for Taco Tuesdays and Thursdays for $5 top shelf liquor specials.
