We are definitely a city full of proud and resilient people here in New Orleans. That’s why it’s no surprise that the first Defend New Orleans shirts were printed way back in 2003.

Jennafer, one of the employees at Defend New Orleans, spoke to us about the brand since then.

“Our brand has been building and expanding ever since those first shirts were printed,” she says. “That’s why we eventually opened our flagship store here in the Garden District in 2011.”

And the expansion certainly didn’t stop there.

“Last year we introduced our second location on Carondelet, next to the Ace Hotel,” says Jennafer. “In February, we launched a new project by opening a record store in tandem with Disko Obscura on St. Mary St.”

The Brand

The Defend New Orleans store is filled with both men’s and women’s clothing, caps, accessories and much more. According to Jennafer, there’s a definite theme throughout the line.

“The products we make embody the spirit of New Orleans,” she says. “We’re dedicated to projects and ideas that empower the community.”

The classic design features “Defend New Orleans” across the front with a skull sporting the beloved fleur-de-lis. And Defend New Orleans has tapped into their whimsical side with their “I Love You Louisiana” design, featuring an alligator hugging the state of Louisiana—so precious.

Giving Back to the Community

But Defend New Orleans isn’t all about profits.

“We have used our proceeds in the past to support non-profits, host events and produce creative content,” says Jennafer.

The future is bright for Defend New Orleans. Jennafer spoke to us about looking ahead.

“As the brand grows and evolves we will continue to craft and share new visions for how to create and commune,” she says.

Don’t miss an opportunity to stop by the Defend New Orleans shop and gear up—don’t forget to grab a free sticker on the way out.
