Just a short ferry ride across the Mississippi River to Algiers Point will have you within walking distance of The Crown & Anchor English Pub.

The Crown & Anchor was opened in 1992 by an Englishman from Coventry and remains the only true English pub in New Orleans.

If you’re a fan of Doctor Who, you might notice the front door to The Crown & Anchor is a TARDIS, the fictional time machine from the show. Brad, the bartender at The Crown & Anchor, talked about the significance of Doctor Who.

“This place is packed with Dr. Who fans for watch parties on Saturday nights,” he says. “Everybody gets really into it.”

But The Crown & Anchor isn’t just relying on pop culture for its decoration. The English pub is loaded with authentic English flags, signs and other artifacts imported from England–you will feel like you’re in Coventry.

The Crown & Anchor also prides itself on being a family friendly establishment.

“We have board games and darts that guests usually have fun playing,” says Brad. “We are even a dog-friendly bar. We always have dog treats at the bar.”

And The Crown & Anchor is serving those who serve.

“We are definitely an industry bar,” says Brad. “A lot of the people that hang out here work at other bars around New Orleans.”

That’s partly because of the great prices at The Crown & Anchor.

“Happy Hour is from 4:00 to 7:00 every night,” says Bard. “We do a $1 discount on all of our draft beers.”

The Crown & Anchor is also dedicated to the community.

“We do potlucks here all of the time for local charities,” says Brad. “Sometimes we will do a big crawfish boil and only charge donations.”
